A Practical Guide for Shoppers
If you are in the market for a new counter or bar stool, then you are likely well aware that there are plenty of options from which to choose. On this Web site alone, we have more than 30 different styles of CalligarisR stools and each of those styles comes with different options in terms of the finish and colors. It's no wonder that shopping for new stools can be tough and take quite awhile.
We've assembled this practical guide in order to share insight from our resident Product Expert on CalligarisR products, Vadim Korol. Vadim has been assisting customers in their stool selection process for nearly a decade and is dedicated to staying on top of the latest trends in modern furniture.
Stool Size
There are several common stool sizes to choose from. The basic difference in stool sizes is that smaller stools, ranging from 24" to 26" are termed "counter stools", whereas larger stools, ranging in size from 29" to 31" are referred to in the industry as "bar stools." This difference in terminology simply reflects the size of the counter, which sits at a height of about 36" or the bar, which is generally about 42".

"There is a general understanding that you need about eight inches from the top of your knee when you're sitting at the stool to the bottom of the counter," said Vadim. "Naturally, you need to measure your counter and decide on a style before you start shopping."
Adjustable stool
Plus, CalligarisR manufactures a wide range of adjustable stools that utilize a piston mechanism to adjust the height of the stool. "One example of the adjustable stool is a model we have in stock that goes from 26" to 33.25." That height range is standard, but other height ranges are also available.
If you are not sure what kind of counter height you have, or if you frequently move residences, it may be to your benefit to invest in the adjustable stool models as a long-term stool solution.
Stool Finish
When shopping for the perfect finish for your next stool, be sure to bring pictures of your existing furniture or of the furniture that you will buy. Keep in mind that if you are planning to move and take your furniture with you, your stool can go just about anywhere, whereas larger furniture may not. Therefore, it may be to your benefit to opt for a simpler stool model that can suit your current and future home style.
Stool Style
Like the stool finish, the style of your stool should reflect your personal tastes and the aesthetic requirements of your home.
Vadim reports that one of the most common questions with regards to stool purchasing is centered on whether or not a stool should have a back. Some people believe that the back of the stool actually provides support that can help to relax the back and keep the sitter from falling backwards. However, Vadim says that assumption is simply not the case.
"As long as the sitter has his or her feet on the foot rest of the stool, the person will not fall backwards because he or she will be balanced," said Vadim. "As long as your legs are placed on that rest, you have proper support. And if people like to lounge, they lounge regardless of a backrest or not. However, you will not fall off as long as your legs are on the leg rest."
